Today my friend Tamara used the word "Ubuntu" & that's exactly what's so compelling about the video I posted yesterday. (I couldn't put my finger on it, perhaps because we DON'T have a word like that!)
Tamara explains...
Archbishop Desmond Tutu (2008):
"One of the sayings in our country is Ubuntu - the essence of being human. Ubuntu speaks particularly about the fact that you can't exist as a human being in isolation. It speaks about our interconnectedness. You can't be human all by yourself, and when you have this quality - Ubuntu - you are known for your generosity.
We think of ourselves far too frequently as just individuals, separated from one another, whereas you are connected and what you do affects the whole world. When you do well, it spreads out; it is for the whole of humanity."

i can't hear the video because my computer's sound doesn't work anymore, but i love the concept of ubuntu. it has come up many times in my coursework. the ubuntu translation i've heard is "i am because we are and because we are, i am." beautiful
Interesting. It makes me think of how we are all connected by the Creator and are brothers and sisters in Christ.
